Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

Im in the process of writing a childrens book and I have asked my student that I assist as a (Teachers Assistant at a Jr. High School) to help me write it. We are working as a team to get this book wrote and then I will get it published if possible. My student is 13yrs old and vision Impaired, so the book will be in Braille and in print. Do I need a lawyer for anything or just his parents written permission notarized before I try to get the book published? I want to split the proceeds 50/50 with my student. I will be the one who writes the book, but Daniel is the person who is giving me his thoughts and ideas and we will put it all together. I just want to know if I need a lawyer for anything to protect myself? Also if a certain toy is mentioned in the book, do I have to get the permission of that particular toy etc. before I can use it in my book? Thanks.

You should hire counsel and work out the details ahead of time. Mentioning a toy in a book should not be an issue. In fact the toy maker should appreciate the free advertising.
