Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

selling sales-call (public) information

I'm working on a website that will sell information for corporations and associations. I'm in sales and regularly visit (one-on-one, interoffice) with clients to obtain their current state of affairs in the hotel industry (what hotels they are contracting, destination, dates, preferred vendors, etc.). Is it legal to sell this information on the web without their permission? Some of the same information is available through national trade resourses (hard copies and on-line). This information is shared with all sales contacts within the industry and has not been deemed confidential by the client. Please let me know if you need more specific information.

Re: selling sales-call (public) information

This seems like a bad idea, since your clients may feel you are betraying their trust. This trust you have developed seems to be an important component of your relationship with your clients. They may not be so willing to open up to you.
