Legal Question in Technology Law in Illinois

Possible cyber libel?

Individuals who do not know me are initiating and spreading false statements and damaging insinuations about me on internet search dog groups to which I am not subscribed, so I am unable to respond. Some friends have forwarded copies of a few of these posts, to which I have proof that the authors are misrepresenting the facts. There is at least one E-mail that I have been unable to get a copy of, that I am told is written in a threatening tone... and the author uses the word ''shoot'' in his rantings! My friend promised one of our peers that she would not reveal the source to me, because law enforcement and SAR dog handlers have posted on that site.

This whole issue arose from a proposed demo. trail in which I originally accepted a challenge to show that a Bloodhound can follow the scent trail of an individual who left/was taken in a vehicle. This has been done for many years by many handlers, but some LE refuse to accept it as truth. After discovering some lies and deceptions involving the initial plan, I advised those behind it that I could not participate.

The ''bashing'' has gone beyond reasoning, and I have only been able to respond to an individual who wrote me directly. Please advise how to effectively end this. Thanks!!

Re: Possible cyber libel?

Are you acting individually or operating a business? (THis may affect your ability to bring action for slander/libel.)

You will need to ID all actors, then have your attorney contact them re: Cease and Desist letter. Thereafter, legal injunctions would be required.

I have handled a number of these type of Cyber-Slander/Harassment cases.
