car title

we bought a new car in 2001 that was financed by the manufacturer.

the car was totaled in 2003. got a replacement car but kept the same loan. finished paying in december 2006. now finance company cannot locate the title. what is my recourse?

You should be able to get a duplicate title from the secretary of state. If there is a lien on the title, the new title will go to the finance company. The finance company should release the lien and send you the title. The finance company should also pay for the costs of obtaining a duplicate title.
