bounce check

i own a small business and recieved a bad check i talked to the customer and they ended up with the checks,(they fooled me so to speak) the only proof i have is sales receipt with the check no. on it. i never ran the checks through, i checked with their bank,they informed me that the acct. was closed nov. 4th. the customer has refused to let me have the merchandise back. what to do???

This is one of the risks that businesses face when they take personal checks. You can certainly file a lawsuit against the customer. If you believe the person is intentionally using bad checks, you can file a police report. You can also change your policy regarding personal checks in the future.
