Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Deceased husbands debt

My husband passed away three years ago. Had several credit cards in his name only. One company has been after me to pay this debt, I do not feel responsible for this debt, he has a seperate p.o. box I didn't see or know about these cards. These collection companys will not leave me alone adn they now have an attorneys office calling me. They told me that he put my name on this card, but I was not aware of it nor did I ever sign anything. Am I responsible for this debt?

Re: Deceased husbands debt

If you had no knowledge of the credit card and never used them, then you probably are not liable. When your husband died was a probate estate opened?

The collection agencies and the attorney will continue to call you until you send them a cease and desist letter which should be sent via certified mail.
