Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Employment Verification

I am planning on getting a money judgement against my ex-husband because he has defaulted on our divorce agreement. I believe this will ultimately result in wage garnishment. However, I do not know the name of the employer he is currently working for and he won't give it to me. How can I find out where he is working now? We live in two different cities. I have his SS#, address and even his drivers license. Is there any tool other than hiring a private investigator I can use to get the information? I don't want to have to spend hundreds of dollars on it.

Re: Employment Verification

You can file for a "citation to discover assets." The form is available from the Court Clerk. There is a fee for filing it, about $50.

Once it is filed, he will have to answer where he works, what bank he uses, etc, under oath. If he refuses to answer, he can be held in contempt of court.

Good luck
