Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Ex-husband's debt coming back to me

While I was married I made a poor choice in judgement to sign on for a loan for my husband for a business start-up. We have since divorced. I have paid off all of his debt and have no contact information on him. I'm now contacted by a credit agency, through my mother, stating the default status of the loan. I do not know what he did with the money or where he is. Is there anything I can do to protect myself.

Since you signed the note, you have an obligation to repay the money. About all you can do is sue your ex-husband. Unless he's really spending some money to avoid being found, most private investigators should be able to track him down.
