Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I had a gas bill in my name and was laid off of work and couldn't pay the bill, so the bill grew bigger and bigger. Then my grandson moved in and decided to put the bill in his name because I couldn't pay it. In two months, he lost his job and after so long I could not support him so he moved out. They cut my gas off and I wanted to see if I could some way pay my bill. They told me I had to pay my bill and my grandson's bill to get it back on. My grandson is 24 years old and should be responsible for his own. By being in the same household I have to pay his bill too? I will never get my gas on if I have to do that. What can I do for the winter months? I get unemployment and CEDA told me I get too much for one person. Do you know of anything I can do?

I have provided a link for you to the Illinois Legal Aid page regarding gas shut off during winter months.
