Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

A hold was put on my checking account today by collections. This was from a Nicor bill from 2001. This hold on my account has caused big problems for me and my five month old daughter. I cannot get money to feed my daughter or get gas to get to work. Is this legal for a collection company to do?

The hold was, most likely, as a result of a default judgment entered against you, Whether the service obtained was valid may be an issue, but you really need to talk to an atty about trying to vacate the judgment. Or call legal aid.
