Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

If my husband dies, am I responsible for his student loans? Also, my husband is still receiving collection calls for a utility bill his father paid off. We have no record of the payment and apparently it was not reported properly. How can we get the collectors to stop calling?

I would need to review the loan documents to give you a definitive answer, but most student loans are forgiven at death.

You will probably need to track down the check that paid off the account to see if it has any account notations. Obviously the money went somewhere.
