Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

My husband and I live in chicago, and we have a joint checking account. The other day they put a hold or freez on our checking account because he had a judgment against him for a midical bill that's 11 years old from hammond, indiana. We requested an earlier hearing, but that may still take at least a week or so. My husband is unemployed, and the only funds in there is just my pay, which was direct deposited today. I have no funds, except for my pay. Is it legal to freez my funds, even though this is a debt he had before we got married? And is it legal to freez our accout from out of state?

As long as it is a joint account, it is legal to take the money. If your bank has branches in Indiana then it is possible to do what they have done. They also may have registered the judgment in Illinois, allowing them to do what they have done.
