Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Is it legal for the government to take money from your disability ccheck or tax return because they said public aid overpaid these people ten years ago and five years ago? These people have no idea how much they were overpaid and how much if any they still owe. I feel like the government should have sent them a notice and gave them a chance to pay this back themselves.

They will claim they sent notice to your last known address. you may be entitled to a hearing n the issue of how much, if anything, you owe, but once that is established they have the right to take it out of your check.
