Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Lien on property

Can a lawn care company place a lien on my property if I never had contact with the company? The owner said his employee was double dipping, cutting my grass on his time. I am also paying guy to cut my grass. Owner states I owe him $300.00, and he will lien my property. WE have no contract. Can this lawn care owner do this? How do I stop it?

Re: Lien on property

If you did not have a contract with the company, no, they should not be able to legally lien your property. If they file a mechanics lien anyway, this may be considered slander of title. It is certainly not your problem that they have a problem with their employees.
