Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

We signed up for Comcast business internet service...the connection was never good and we called for disconnection within 30 days. Now collection agency is trying to collect $900 for Comcast for early termination. Do we have any recourse?

Bad service is a potential defense. Unfortunately for a $300 bill you most likely will spend more money in court and on an attorney than it may be worth. However, you can talk to Comcast directly and try to work it out. They keep records of all service related calls and contacts for this very kind of thing. If you are willing to take the time to try to get this information, you may be able to stop the collection agency from proceeding to a lawsuit. If you can't you may still be able to defend, but if you lose the appearance fee alone will be around half of the claimed amount. And there are trips to court, etc., and your credit rating may already have been dinged, which would have to be dealt with.
