Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I am being sued by an assisted living facility for approximately $25,0000 for my stay there. I suffered a catastrophic accident in Feb. 2009 resulting in major surgery. My insurance ran it's course and there was no way for me to pay. I was kicked out. I am basically a pauper. I have no way to have a lawyer help me. I receive food stamps so that I may eat and family has allowed me to stay in their home for a short time. My case with disability and medicaid is pending. I have nothing. What do I do? What will happen?

There are legal aid societies that can provide a lawyer's help free of charge. Area bar associations have referral services that may include free help. You should have a case worker for your disability and medicaid and he or she should be able to point you in some direction for legal help. That's where to start. Otherwise yes you could wind up having things happen to you that you have no control over.
