Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

being suied by ex as a creditor

Ive just recieved a collection notice from an att. naming boyfriend as creditor with a zero amount. He has moved out but the house is his. I unfortunately suffer from PSTD and am unemployed. What does this notice mean with $0.00 as an amount and what can I do? Thank you so much for any help you can give.

I have no idea what they could be doing. They must be wanting something from you, because it is a little expensive to hire an attorney to go to court to collect nothing. I would suggest having an attorney review the documents you received.

If the attorney is attempting to collect a debt, he must comply with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Assuming they actually do want money from you, the attorney would have to give you notice that he is attempting to collect a debt, that you have thirty days to dispute the debt, etc.
