Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Wedding dress destroyed, cleaners won't pay us back!

We gave my wife's wedding dress to a local dry cleaners to be cleaned and heirloomed. When we got it back. All of the beads fell of and all of the appliques turned brown. They tried to hide it by putting it in the box and sheilding it with tissue paper!!! When we brought it back, they said that they would fix it. They never did. Then they said they would claim it on insurance so we could get paid for the dress. Two years later, we have no proof that any claim was submitted by this company. Also, the managers have not returned our phone calls for at least a year! We just want to get the money for the dress back! But, we believe that we deserve something extra for the bull that they have put us through. We are not sure if the expense of hiring a lawyer is worth it since we won't get more than 5000 for the dress. Any advice???

If you're in Illinois, and your claim is less than $5000, you can file a small claims action against the dry cleaner. I would think the statute of limitations is 2 years, so don't delay. Sorry, there is no right of recovery for putting up with "bull." Wish there was -- I'd be rich.
