Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Clearing Record

How do I go about clearing false charges from an ex-wife of which I was arrested for, then sevn years later they were dropped/dismissed. The arrest still shows up when trying to further job opportunities. Charges were filed in 1985 in Illinois, arrest was in Texas where I was in the Air Force. These charges were dismissed/dropped approx. seven years later. Record shows I was arrested but no further info.

Please help and advise.

Re: Clearing Record

There is a process in Illinois for expunging the record of your arrest providing you meet certain eligibility requirements. Among the requirements is having been discharged either by a finding of not guilty, a dismissal of the charges or the arrest not having resulted in actual charges being filed in court. Should you need assistance in this area, I can be contacted at 603-243-0099.

You need to contact an attorney in Illinois. In Texas, it is possible under some circumstance to get a record purged. I would be surprised if Illinois did not have some similar procedure to clean up a record.
