Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I'm from Illinois. I got a ticket for "retail theft". I was told that it would be a civil case just between the store and me. However, I also have a scheduled court date. I am a first-time offender and have no criminal history. Is there any way I can keep this off my record?

Hire an attorney who may be able to get the store to ask the State's Attorney to drop the charges. What that will take is impossible to say, but it certainly could include restitution.

I agree. You should hire an attorney. You are apparently facing criminal charges, and you need to avoid a conviction if at all possible. Depending upon what Court your case is in, it may be possible to negotiate a plea bargain that would do so. I have handled many criminal cases throughout Illinois over the last thirty four years, and you may feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultation to see if I might be able to help you.
