Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Missed court date

Last month I was picked up for misdemeanor theft, 1st offense in Chicago. The total was under $25.

I told the arresting officers that that weekend I was moving back to Michigan and they told me it was alright. I went and served five hours of jail time. Well I got scheduled for court today (Feb. 19th) and I can't make it. I know that there will be a warrant for my arrest and I've basically decided to (in the next few days) turn myself in to my city's police office for the warrant. What exactly will happen? Or is there anyway to get out of more jail time?

Re: Missed court date

You might want to call the court in chicago and request an adjournment. If you need help with this give me a call.

Re: Missed court date

You have two options to stay out of jail: get the warrant quashed or post your bond. If you choose the latter option, you might try to call the Cook County Circuit Clerk's Office to see what amount your bond has been set at. If you choose to attempt the first option, the assistance of an attorney is recommended.

If you get arrested and can't post your bond, you could be in jail for a while.
