Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

I am a resident of illinois. In 2009 i came to texas and got a burglary of habitatio. I was put on 4 years probation and transferred to illinois. In illinois i caught a posession of controlled substance less than one gram. Illinois put me on probation which violated my texas probation. My texas po called me and said to turn myself in in 30 days so i did. They sentenced me to 4 years in tdcj. I did 2 years and made parole and am currently waiting on my interstate compact. I called my illinois probation officer and he said i left the state of illinois without permsssion and got arrested even though i turned myself in. So he put a warrant out for my arrest. I guess i will turn myself again when i get to IL. I dont have money for a lawyer, can i hire a public defender now or do i have to go to jail first? Also in your oppinion what do you think will happen? I thought i was doing the right thing by turning myself in but i guess i did it wrong.
