Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

Verbal Assault

I am being hauled into court by my son in laws mother, and I am being charged with Verbal assault, I have no idea what this is I was never arrested I never saw a police report until I got one in the mail 3 weeks later. Granted I did have some words with her as she did me, I stepped in to defend my grandkids who she was being extremely verbally abusive toward them causing them to cry. There was never any physical contact and no weapons. This women has mental issues is an alcohlic and is very vindictive, eventhough I make a decent living just enough to get by, don't even know what this is all about. By the way we have had 2 court dates the judge has advised me that I needed counsel... Would you consider this a frivilous law suit and a waste of the judicial system Help...Please explain

Re: Verbal Assault

This is NOT a civil lawsuit. You are being prosecuted under the CRIMINAL law. The judge told you to get a lawyer because you may be subject to jail time, up to 1 year. I have done hundreds of this type of case in my 27 years of law practice. The state must show more than mere words. Please call me immediately TODAY for a free consultation. Attorney George M. Re: Verbal Assault

It would appear that you have been charged with a crime or at least an ordinance violation, and as the Judge has told you, you need to hire an attorney to represent you in the defense of this charge. Obviously, when a Judge tells a defendant this, the Judge is trying to do the defendant a favor because there are potential negative consequences to you proceeding without an attorney. Depending upon where exactly all of this is taking place, I might be able to offer my services. If you would like a free telephone consultation, you may call me at 314-727-2822.
