Legal Question in DUI Law in Illinois

Drunk Driver totaled my car

A drunk driver totaled my car. No insurance. Apparently I didnt have uninsured motorist. Can I alter my car to try to make it drivable before his trial? And do I need a lawyer present at his trial or can I just show judge the estimates for repairs?

Re: Drunk Driver totaled my car

Hello. I suggests that you take a picture of the damage to your car to preserve as evidence. If you have any witnesses, you should bring them to court. I imagine this is the traffic court that you are referring to. Assuming I am correct, the traffic court judge will not award you money for the damages to your car.

You will have to file a separate lawsuit and I suggests that you retain a lawyer to represent you. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
