Legal Question in Elder Law in Illinois

how to change power of attorney

My grandmother passed away just a couple of days ago and my aunt was her power of attorney, but she has not accepted the death and is on a lot of drugs and not really capable of taking care of everything.my mother (whom i am writing for) wants to give my grandmother a proper burial as do the rest of us but we do not have the money to cover all of the funeral costs we believe that my grandmother had life insurance for this purpose but we do not know how to go about taking care of this with my aunt as the power of attorney any help on this situation would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Re: how to change power of attorney

Since your grandmothere died, the power of attorney no longer exists. Your aunt has no power at all. The life insurance will pay out to the benificiary, whoever that may be.
