can i be paid for home care for my 83 year old mother to reduce her estate and i pay income tax on it

Yes, it is possible in Illinois for a family member to become a paid care giver. It will not be allowed if she is already in a nursing home. A proper agreement must be prepared. Careful, the agreement must meet the requirements of the Medicaid rules in order for the payments to be considered allowed transfers.

We often prepare these agreements as part of our plan to qualify our clients for Medicaid benefits.

Remember that a caregiver agreement is only one part of a Medicaid plan. There may be much more we can do to protect your mother and her assets.
