Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I'm 18 yrs old and adopted at 13 by my stepfather. I have since re-connected with my birth father, who was on my original birth cert.(also married my mother when I was 5 yrs old) and have had a break from my mother and adoptive father. I would like to legally return to my birth name. I live in and was adopted in Cook County Illinois

The easiest way to do what you want is to just file a change of name suit in the Chancery Division at the Daley Center. It would be much more difficult to set aside the adoption. Once you are an adult which you may now be you can change your name to anything you want it to be. You birth certificate will not be changed.

Also as an adult , your Dad can adopt you.
