Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

child custody

We are seeking shared custody. My husband says that I cannot move the children 3 hours away because he would have to travel too far to see them. I need to move to an area where there are job and grad school opportunities. He says that I can't until I have exhausted every option within 1 and a half hours from him first. How difficult can he make this?

Re: child custody

I am assuming that you are going through a divorce. You will need to petition the court to approve the move. Be careful, many such issues cannot be re-litigated for at least two years after they are originally decided by a court. If you are not using an attorney for such a matter, you really should. This is not a simple, no contest sort of matter.
