Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Can my divorce attorney drop me without warning? I received a motion to withdraw and i have no idea why. I paid the retainer to this attorney about one month ago.

The reason for the withdraw will be plead in the motion you received. Likely it'll say something along of the lines of "Irreconcilable Differences," "Breach of Contract," or some other ethical issue that has arisen. The reason must be plead in the withdrawal petition, and the court must grant it before it can officially happen.

However these are liberally granted, meaning I would be stunned if it's denied. You'll have 21 days for find a new attorney. I would recommend starting now, as the second attorney will likely charge you even more than the first due to liability concerns.
