we are in the middle of divorce proceedings she was awarded temporary custody i was wondering if it is ok if she takes the kids out of state

No. In my opinion it is not o.k. She should file a motion for removal and I do hope that you are represented. Visitation with children in divorce situations is very important and you do not want a situation where your kids could be alienated from you by acts of mom or someone that mom knows such as a maternal family member. You should stay alert to protecting your rights as a father in the best interest of your kids. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail.
