Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I was divorced about 19 years ago and we have two children. He was ordered to pay child support even though he was unemployed at the time. He paid two or three times and then we never heard from him again. I understand he is no longer in the state the divorce originated in (Illinois). Can I still file a law suit against him even though the children are now grown? I also would like to know if there are any lawyers that can handle a case like this and just get paid out of the settlement instead of charging a retainer.

You need to talk to a lawyer in the state where he is now, as that is where you would have to sue to try to collect back support. I think the chances of getting a family lawyer to take this on a contingent fee are very low unless the back support is huge and he is filthy rich, but you stand even less chance of that in Illinois since the lawyer would have to go to the other state and hire a lawyer there to collect this, unless you find a lawyer licensed in both states and who is hungry enough for work to take on a long shot like this. For sure not me.
