Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

ok i have a friend trying to get custody or so he says but i have a few questions. ok first his name is not on the birth certificate of the baby and his babys mom is not allowing him to see his son so he wants to fight for custody. wouldnt he first have to prove paternity which he doesnt HAVE to have a lawyer for. then start the custody battle and that there are lawyers that do pro bono work for those specific situations.

He need to file a law suit seeking to be declared the father and to be ordered to pay support for the child. What gives him the desire for custody after the child has lived with the mother all this time. A judge is unlikely to remove a child from his or her present situation unless there is a reason to do so. It is best if your friend have a lawyer. It is not a simple thing to do.
