Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Can I be held legally accountable if I was listed in a friend's divorce decree (not to have contact with their children) if I was never formally served with the decree and didn't know what it said, and one of the children reached out and contacted me?

It depends on why you were listed. You do not have to be served. Your friend is responsible for seeing that you do not have contact with the children and she is the one who would be held responsible. If the child is over 18, the child can have contact with whoever they want. If you were named in the decree because you are a registered sex offender, you should not be having contact with any children and you will be held criminally accountable regardless of the decree.
