Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

In Illinois if a father is on the birth cert. but not married to the mother and they split up does he have rights to see the child before going to court? And what does he have to do to get it in to court, does he have to have a lawyer? Cant afford a lawyer right now.

He'll need to file a petition for visitation in order to get it. Lawyers help, but if you're broke, you're broke. Contact a legal aid organization for assistance.
