Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

life insurance until house is paid

My husband and I were divorced in 2003. The decree stated that he was to keep 100K of life insurance on himself for me until the house was paid. He was also to notifiy me every year that this had been done. He did not do this, however, I worked in the same office and knew it was being done. He took early retirement and is moving to Florida. Do I have any recourse to keep that life insurance provision in tact without hiring a lawyer? There is still a mortgage on the house. Would I be best off just not worrying about it until he passed away? Would I be legally entitled to $100,000 from his estate?

Thanks,

I don't think it's advisable to just wait and see. What if there is no insurance and no funds in the estate to pay you? That would defeat the purpose of the provision. It seems it wouldn't be that hard to get him to send you a copy of proof of renewal of the policy.
