I need to know what i should do i got a motion for failure to pay child support in the mail but i have been making payments i am behind bc i was out of work but it has been coming out of my unemployment check i dont know what to do im scared that im going to jail

Kane County can, and does, lock up child support violators INDEFINITELY. You are wise in understanding that, if your contempt hearing comes out adverse, you will be in an extraordinary unpleasant position.

At this stage, you have nothing to lose by retaining an attorney. The deck is stacked, and time is short. I'm not trying to talk my book here, you need an attorney yesterday. Your ex may be represented by a private attorney, but likely the state's attorney. If the latter, understand they get re-elected by putting people in jail.
