Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

I wanted to contact my ex after a 10 year relationship ended. Would like to ask if I can see my stepdaughter I havent seen in a while. Want to make sure Im not doing anything illegal to get a restraining order against me. It ended pretty badly in court and we agreed for a one year no contact. The year is now up.

A little over a year ago after a 10 year relationship my ex put a false order of protection against me. It was vacated in court and we agreed to a 1 year no contact. It has been past that year now. I would like to be able to start contact again with my stepdaughter and be able to send her cards and gifts. Would like to know the leagl way to be able to do this and not get in anymore false trouble or be accused of stalking or harrasment.

You have no right to contact this child at all. You are not related to her and mother has no obligation to permit you to see her. Interesting that you do not say whether you were ever married to the mother or how old the child is. You may want to hire an attorney in your area to act as an intermediary and try to get some agreement for visitation but I do not recommend that you approach on your own because of the prior restraining/no contact order.
