Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

How will my Husband's filing in our divorce affect me?

My husband filed for a divorce when he found out I was taking him to court for childsupport for our children through the state. We separated because I found out he was living another life with someone else for the 5 years of our marriage. He moved her into his parents home, his parents and I dont have a good relationship. All this time he was supposably staying with his sickly father whos supposably on his death bed 5 days out of a week. This was just a lie for him being and stay in that home all the time. When he was around he was phys abusive. It turns out he purchased the home his parents and him live in right before we wed. Me and my children were just getting visits throughout the years. He has filed extreme and mental cruelty, when it was the other way around. Someone had told me this was just standard, is this true? Is there anyway this can be changed? when he commited adultry, abuse?

Re: How will my Husband's filing in our divorce affect me?

Hello. You have the option of filing a counter

petition for dissolution of marriage on different

grounds. I suggests that you do this, especially

in light of your husband's outrageous behavior

over the years. You can seek child support in

the divorce court. Also remember that you are

entitled to your share of marital property; pro-

perty acquired during the marriage. This is the

case regardless of whether he paid for it. Also,

your husband's pension and/or profit sharing

through his employment are marital property which

the court will divide. Will be happy to answer

any additional question.
