Legal Question in Medical Leave in Illinois

FMLA and laid off

I filed for FMLA and was approved. A week later, I was laid off ''due to workforce reduction''. I work for a large hospital and was the only employee laid off. During me meeting where the hospital informed me of being laid off, the director said my being laid off was not because I filed for FMLA, but that ''they need healthy employees.'' I was told that I was selected to be laid off due to my attendance record, although I followed every required procedure and have records of being granted time off, which were all related to my FMLA request and approval. Can my employer lay me off after I've been approved for FMLA? I work in Illinois but live in Wisconsin.
