Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

My ex-girlfriend and I bought a house together. She had the credit so the house and loan went under her name only. I had the cash, therefore, I made the monthly mortgage payments. We lived together for 3 years. She decided to leave me. Since her name was on the house and mine wasn't, naturally I left. Can I sue for the equity I invested into an asset she owns and I financially paid for? The only reason we ever bought the house together was because we made it public to our friends, family, and each other that we'd get married.

Yes. You have a claim. However, in light of the housing market, you may find that there is little equity. I suggest tat you spend a few hundred dollars on an appraisal and see what the house is worth and then subtract the loan balance and any other liens on the house to determine the equity before you hire an attorney.
