Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

My fiance and I had a friend who purchased a puppy. He had nowhere to keep him so we allowed the puppy to stay at our house since we live on a farm. Seven days ago, my fiance and the friend had a falling out. Not a physical fight..just mutual differences. The friend left that day and left the dog here. I have been potty training, feeding, playing and overall taking care of the pup. We phoned the friend *the first day* and said he had two days to find a place for the pup. He said ok. We have talked to him almost everyday and he hasn't mentioned the pup. When does the puppy become ours to find a home..I have many people that want him.

From what you have described to me, the puppy is yours and you are now legally obligated to provide proper care and sustenance to the dog. If you cannot find a good home for the dog, please contact me. I am involved with various dog rescue groups.

Hmmm. I am not so sure about this one. Seems to me that there is a gratuitous bailment and there may be a duty owed to that dog owner. If you contact her, ask about that. Also, why dont you just take the dog over to the friend's house?
