Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Libel on eBay

I purchased an item on eBay a few weeks ago and it was not as decribed by the seller. eBay has a feedback system where users are allowed to submit feedback about their purchase. I submitted negative feedback for the seller, and as a result the seller submitted negative feedback for me. I paid promptly and performed all of the acts a good buyer is supposed to do though. The negative feedback the seller posted is inaccurate, and since it is viewed by other eBay sellers, negatively impacts how I am viewed on eBay. Additionally, this seller has done this to quite a few other buyers on eBay (at least a dozen, but possibly hundreds). In many situations, he also leaves false information regarding the buyer's ability to pay for the item or communicate with the seller. I and other buyers have tried contacting the seller to resolve this issue, but the seller refuses to email or return phone calls. At this point then I was wondering if this is something that warrants legal action either from me as an individual or as some type of class action libel suit. Thank you for any information or suggestions that you can provide.

Re: Libel on eBay

I think a letter from your attorney the seller demanding a retraction would be appropriate. You should contact ebay along with the other buyers directly. Perhaps contact their legal department.
