Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Getting Screwed!

A friend of mine has lived (Not Married)with a woman for 7 years in Illinois, she had a moving company and her family members came in and basically took (all) household property, and I mean (everything), including all furniture, clothing, his guns, titles to various vehicles, personal and legal papers and records etc. EVERYTHING! All this while he was away on business! There is no common law marriage in Illinois since 1905! All of this proprty (he) paid for, not her. She only owned her clothes and personal items, thats it! The local Fayette County states attorney has been flip flopping on what can be done and hasn't done anything. His lawyer has done the same and then has the gall to tell him to find out where his property is and ''steal it back''! That's brilliant!! Meanwhile she has been selling items and trying to sell his, guns tractors and everything else. Some of her family members have his property in their possession. When is it legal for someone to clean somebody out like this and then the legal eagles aren't doing anything about it? Something is not right!!! What can be done about this and where does he need to go? He needs help fast!!!

Thanks!

Re: Getting Screwed!

You MUST contact an attorney in your area and get a Temporary Injunction first and then an Injunction preventing the sale of the property taken. The lawyer then needs to look into what laws have been violated when the property was taken without permission. The state's attorney's office won't do much... this seems to be a domestic dispute and they will be reluctant in getting involved. Your friend must retain an attorney for help.
