Legal Question in Immigration Law in Illinois

H-1B visa

I am on OPT after completing PhD in a US university and have been working for a University. We filed for H-1B in first week of January '07 but haven't received a receipt or notification from INS. Is there a way to get status of my application.

This is very strange indeed. You can certainly premium process the case and this procedure may give a result in 14 or so days. You may want to try to request an expedite from the CIS which has a process in place to move cases for non-profit academic organizations.
