Immigrant and Birth

My proffessor told me that if you are a women and you are an immigrant and you have gave birth to children in the united states. That some how the mother is a us citizen. Can the mother get citizenship or a green card by giving birth in the United States?

I have never heard of such a thing. Where did your professor learn this information?

Your child, when he or she becomes eligible to do so, may sponsor you for permanent residence, but you can't become a U.S. citizen simply by giving birth to a child in the U.S.

This is not true but is a common misperception in certain communities. Once the child is an adult, he/she can sponsor the parent but an alien does not become a citizen simply by giving birth.
