Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois

Insurance Coverage for Unlicensed Driver

I've recently found out my girlfriend's drivers license expired (issued from another state) in 1999 and she has not renewed it. She's been listed as an insured driver in my car and on my policy for the entire period. When I initially insured her she had a valid license. If she has an accident, will my insurance company still be liable? If not, could I be found liable or fraudulant in any way? Somehow, she lost her Social Security Card and must wait 2 weeks to get a new one and then get her new license. I've told her she cannot drive my car until she gets the license. She's already decided to leave me--please help?

Re: Insurance Coverage for Unlicensed Driver

In my opinion, your insurance company will still

cover your girlfriend if she has an accident, but

she will go to jail if she is caught driving

without a valid driver's license. She needs to

understand the risk involved. I will be happy

to answer any additional questions that you might

have.
