how can a separated wife of a retired postal worker keep or continue insurance when he threatened to stop paying by Christmas

Have you filed a divorce or separate maintenance lawsuit? You can get judicial relief there. In the interim if the insurance company will accept money from you until you get court protection, you may want to consider it if you can afford it. Get an attorney to help you out here; a court can award attorney fees under certain circumstances too.
