Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Illinois

Image copyright rules

I saw a graphic with the handicapped symbol (wheelchair) and skiis underneath. I recreated the image on a computer that wound up being slightly different from the original and put it up on a website. The person who created the original graphic (had the idea) said that I couldn't do that. I took it down as a courtesy but wonder if I was violating any copyright law even though mine was slightly different? The wheelchair symbol is in the public domain and my skiis look slightly different than his. Thanks.

Re: Image copyright rules

The only real way to answer that question is to have the case litigated in court..(at attorney can give an opinoon, but it is only an opinion)...copyright is a very grey area in terms of "is this too close"...looks like you did the honorable thing taking it down just to be respectful. -justin lampel

You may wish to inform your antagonist that the international access symbol is not in the public domain but is owned by the International Commission on Technology and Accessibility. See http://www.ictaglobal.org/isa.html
