Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I work as a full-time nanny for a family who lives in a huge condo building. When I started I signed no contract in regards to anything (hours, wages, etc.). Due to the recent downturn in the economy I began to work as a housekeeper on weekends for other families who live in the building. The family I work full-time for said that what I am doing is illegal. Is there any law in the state of Illinois (cook county) that prohibits me from working for other families in this building, especially since I never signed a contract with the family I nanny for?

Hello. Based upon the information that you have provided, I cannot see why you are being accused of doing something illegal by working as a housekeeper. You may want to contact the city of Chicago Licensing Division by dialing 312 744-4000 to determine if you need a license to act as a housekeeper, under these circumstances.
