Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

My landlord has served me with a 5 day notice for non-payment of rent. He advised me that he does not want the money owed to him but needs us out because they need to rehab the building due to violations. Am I still on the hook for leaving the apartment in the 5 day notice as given. I have two young kids and work full time that it is hard looking for an apartment during the day.

You could just pay the rent you owe within the five days. Then, you can stay through your lease term, provided you continue to make your rent payments.
